It’s been a busy week here at the farm. The weather has been just wonderful to work in and I can see that we’ve reached our peak harvest. This last weekend, we hosted a summer celebration picnic for the Land Stewardship Project. There was a great group of people out at the farm to support LSP, enjoy the day with friends and farmers, and take in a farm tour.
Tomatoes continue to roll in. They cover most of the flat surfaces in the barn. We still are roasting them in the wood-fired oven all spare moments we have.
The green cabbages grew quite large this year. It seemed like the best thing to do was to cut them in half in order to not scare people with 4#+ cabbages in their boxes. This day in age, I believe most folks would rather have small cabbages and eat them up in a day or a couple meals instead of having the cabbage last for a week’s worth of meals.
Melons are new this week. Some members will have athena cantaloupe and some will have watermelon. The watermelons are a yellow variety called yellow doll, or a little red variety called Little Flower.
