Just like the rest of you, we are eagerly waiting for this heat wave to break. The good thing with all the humidity and moisture is that the plants are not stressed by the heat due to ample moisture. However, I’m hoping the extended moist conditions don’t cause disease havoc on the tomato crop this year, but I’m starting to see some blight take out lower leaves.

Theresa and I have been trying to get as early as a start as possible (daybreak for Theresa) and wrapping up activities by early afternoon. We typically don’t have air conditioning on in the house, but have ran it the last few days just to try to keep humidity levels down and have a bit of an escape from the weather.

I think the boxes are just beautiful this week. There’s orange, red, yellow, white, and different shades of green. I’m loving the change to fresh cold salads prepped in the fridge such as broccoli salad, napa coleslaw or ramen salad, cucumber salad. These type of salads replace our lettuce salads this time of year when lettuce is utterly unhappy with the heat. The lettuce will return in cooler temperatures, and we’ll also be hungry for it again at that time. For now, it’s a nice change of pace.

I mentioned last week that we had a wedding at the farm this last Saturday. Besides muddier conditions from all the rain on Friday and early Saturday morning, the event went smoothly and many compliments were received regarding the venue and food we provided. The picture below is of Rob and Melissa saying their vows in the picnic shelter. What a wonderful couple and best wishes to them on their journey together.

We will be cooking wood-fired pizzas as usual this Thursday and Friday 4:30-9pm. Live music will feature the Ditch Lilies on Thursday evening from 6-9pm. Come on out and enjoy…I hear a cooler night is in store for Thursday evening.

Eat Well. Smile Often.
