Mark your calendars!! Saturday, July 27th…Potluck and Hoe Down/Barn Dance at Suncrest Gardens Farm. Everyone welcome! Dinner 5:30-7:30, Music 8-11 with Manfort
What a warm week on the farm. We hit the weeds hard on Monday making our late brassica plantings look free and clear of competition. Things are growing like crazy, but we have started to water as some of the brassicas appear to be almost cooking in the field by mid afternoon. Thanks to a great harvest crew of 6 people on Tuesday morning, we were able to pick, wash, and pack all the CSA veggies into their boxes and tuck them into the walk-in cooler for safe keeping by noon.
Vanessa, our intern, will see the delivery route this afternoon as she’ll be in charge of delivery when Ashlan gets his tonsils out in a couple weeks. We hope this sets him up for a much healthier winter than he’s had in the past due to repeated strep throat.
Less than 2 months until our wedding in September, so we’ve had to refocus on some of the details and planning for this event. Thankfully we are both pretty mellow about the planning process and have been enjoying our cupcake tastings as we choose the right recipes for our dessert. We have lots of enthusiastic family cooks who are going to assist in helping prepare different parts of the meal to serve for the event. This will certainly be a family affair!
The garden has even been blessed with several generous rows of flowers to use for the wedding. The added beauty in the garden makes me smile as the flowers are just beginning to bloom. All can enjoy them for the season which is much better than flowers bought for just that day.
Buddy, our oldest dog, gets his first hair cut today. It’s only taken 12 years, but the old boy is going to love feeling cooler when all is said and done. The heat is taking a toll on him and a few little added treats are just what he needs.
