Winter is officially upon us. As I wear extra layers and big boots, I’m finding a different set of muscles that need toning for trudging through the snow. Each season is its own and there’s a brisk, alive feeling tending to chores on the farm in the winter. Simple things like hot cocoa and steaming bowls of hot soup seem to warm more than your inner core after a good day’s work.

Seed catalogs are rolling in these days already alluring me to the days of spring and new life. It’s fun to start daydreaming about all the new possibilities and remembering what things we’d like to do again or update for next year.

Speaking of next year, I have recently been engaged and plan to get married next September. Jason Schaffner and I are looking forward to officially joining our families and figuring out how our busy farm lives will evolve. He is a dairy farmer located about 10 miles from my farm. I believe there will never be a dull moment…
