The garden activities have switched from mainly planting to trellising and weeding. We’re using a bamboo style trellis this season for our peas, and so far so good. It was easy to install and lightweight. The twine is biodegradable and will hopefully be able to serve it’s purpose for the 2 month window needed.

As I become more of a “seasoned” grower, I find myself looking for ways to become more efficient, easier on the body, and willing to spend a little investment for systems that do well and meet the prior criteria. I find it a good challenege to try to improve our systems and find better ways to produce quality produce.

The neighbors have mowed the hay at our farm and we hope to get it baled up by this afternoon. I love the smell of fresh cut hay. Even though I don’t own any haying equipment, the nostalgia of raking hay as a teenager and young adult out west comes back in full just by watching the process. I still like to use the old adage of “make hay when the sun shines” regularly for all kinds of applicable situations.

I plan on getting out the SUMMER CSA schedules soon for those who are on an every other week schedule, be it even or odd weeks of our CSA. I will also post the dates for the even/odd schedule on our CSA Pick-Up Site Page.

The family and I had a fun roadtrip last weekend to Milwaukee. It was a beautiful day for a wedding in a rural countryside church followed by a baseball theme wedding in Milwaukee. To make a little extra fun out of the drive back home, we enjoyed the hotel pool in the morning and spent some money in Wisconsin Dells riding go carts and playing some mini golf. We were all tired Sunday night from the travels, but enjoyed the change of pace and visits with family.

Our next adventure will take us to Chetek, Wisconsin next weekend. My boys will spend a week up there fishing with the grandparents and I’ll join them for a couple days. Summer is a splendid time. Thank goodness our energy is as abundant as the sunshine!

Wood-Fired Pizza : This Fridy night, we have live music on the farm by Joe & Vicki Price, 6-9pm.  We’re open every Friday 4:30-9pm May-September. We’ll also be open Thursday nights June-August.
