Remember: Week 1=Odd Week for those that are every other week members.

Welcome Summer CSA Members! It amazingly feels like summer this week, and smells like summer in the country with all of the hay fields being mowed down everywhere we drive. Ethan especially is delighted seeing all the busy farmers out in their fields chopping or baling hay.

We too have our hay laying in the sunshine getting dry so we can get our first bales wrapped up to start filling the pole barn for this winter. Thank goodness for the comraderie of farmers and custom balers who are always ready to step in and give even a very small farmer such as myself a hand in getting this task completed.

Weeding has been in full swing as we’re trying to keep up with the new surge of growth from all the plants. But everything is loving the sunshine!

The hen house was hit by a coon or skunk the other night. This is not good news. Five birds were decapitated and left for dead. The others survived, but were rather distraught. Our girls who were suffering from reduced laying are having an even rougher time. So for this week, only the summer members who paid for an egg share will receive their eggs. The year round members will have a week break from eggs as they had eggs last week. We are regrouping the hen situation: a live trap was set, the coop is hunkered down, and we have some new laying hens sourced to help reenergize the laying situation. We hope to be back on track shortly.

Pizza Schedule this Week:

Open both Thursday and Friday evening, 4:30-9pm. Live Music by the Beef Slough Boys on Friday, 6-9pm.

Until next time,

Eat Well. Smile Often.

Your Farmer,

Heather
