The weather this week is letting me think of fall again, even though I don’t feel quite ready to do so. I guess I’m still feeling a little shorted by the slim summer this year.  However, I still need to keep progressing down our planting list for fall/winter. The hot weather last week delayed some plantings and the lack of rain is making some seedings come up sporadic, so we have to water in our next plantings this week to get a more even germination. The weather seems to always give you something to think/complain about…currently, the lack of rain is becoming a real issue.

The bulk of tomatoes were harvested this week. Over 500# of tomatoes were picked on Monday alone. Due to a private party for Winona Lighting here on Tuesday night, we were unable to begin our processing after our CSA box packing on Tuesday. But thankfully to the new pizza schedule this week, we’ll have an extra day to process produce on Thursdays.

Finally, the sweet peppers are beginning to ripen in the new hoophouse. Red Carmen peppers, orange and yellow sweet bell peppers, and a new yellow carmen were among the rock stars this week. I just love colored peppers; they make my heart smile.

The other fun family news is that both boys are now heading in the same direction each day, meaning both are in school full time. Ashlan is in 3rd grade and Ethan has started Kindergarten. They both are excited for their new school year and I’m excited to gain extra time in my day from not running to/from daycare twice a day. The boys each packed a fresh peach from their grandparent’s tree and gave it to their teachers as an offering of appreciation.

Less than 2 weeks until our wedding, so the food preparations for that will begin soon…

Last Month for Wood-Fired Pizza…

We are now only open Fridays thru the end of September, 4:30-9pm. Our live music this week will be by Jeff White from 6-9pm.

Eat Well. Smile Often.
