The newbie in the box this week is the sugar snap pea. A delightfully crunchy, sweet pea with an edible shell. It’s great just as a snack, as a simply side dish, or added to a stir-fry. We fill our bellies in the field with them and often don’t bother even cooking them.

Garlic Scapes-you ask what are these curly pigtails in the box? They are the immature stalk of the garlic flower. They are pulled in order to have the garlic bulb bulk up more, and they have great garlic oils in them to chop up and use just like garlic. Nibble on one and you’ll taste the less pungent, but distictly garlic taste. Here’s 7 things to do with garlic scapes. I made the garlic scape pesto and it certainly has a garlic punch. No vampires sneaking up on me! I think it would be great made with half spinach/half garlic scapes to tame it down, or mixed with plain yogurt as a dip.

The end of the asparagus has come. The warm, dry weather has put the breaks on this spring treasure. Now, onto the next season of eating!

4th of July Decision: The majority of the membership wanted to cancel the delivery the week of the 4th of July and add on a delivery at the end of the season. I will remind you of as we near the holiday week. Thanks for sharing your opinions!
