We’ve had a busy week at the farm thus far and plan to stay that way through the weekend. The first wedding of the season at the farm will be on Saturday. The weather looks good and we’ve been pushing hard to get all the weeding caught up in the garden. The flowers in the gardens look wonderful this year and we’re excited to share this special day with Maggie & Matt and their guests. Wood-fired pizza, sun-dried tomato pasta salad, garden salad, and veggie trays will be served up. Some guests will even camp at the farm and enjoy the sunrise as the rooster crows with coffee and muffins.

We have a wonderful group of people who assist at the farm in a variety of ways and I send a huge THANK YOU out to all of them! I couldn’t do all of this without a great group of smiley folks who are ambitious and eager to get things done. Our intern, Anna, arrived last week from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Anna attends college in Chicago and came to the farm to learn more about farming and running a small diversified farm business. She has bounced into the routine of the farm and has a couple pizza nights under her belt as well. Welcome Anna!

I hope the meat birds all survive the high heat today. I may put a sprinkler on them in the afternoon. The group of 100 birds is reaching their butcher weight and this means they tend to have a harder time cooling down. Thankfully it’s one day of high heat index and cooling some at night.

This week, it’s a challenge to get the boxes to close! The effects of the warm weather and the recent rain are pushing things through in the garden. We have several new faces in the box this week: zucchini/summer squash, napa cabbage, and broccoli.

The napa cabbage are big and beautiful heads. We really enjoyed the raw napa salad recipe above with is a version of the Ramen Napa Salad recipe we’ve posted in earlier years. The only changes I made were finely chopping the napa by hand and adding one packet of the oriental ramen seasoning to the dressing.
