With the skipped CSA last week due to the 4th of July holiday, it seems as if the last CSA delivery was forever ago! We’re so happy to be back into the swing of things today and filling your boxes with lots of garden goodness. The heat has wrecked havoc on some of the garden planning this year. The brassicas are being pushed ahead of schedule and the broccoli is coming in like crazy now. But hopefully we can get some rain in the near future. We need everyone doing their rain dances and helping to bring on some moisture.

New faces this week: purple kholrabi. You’ll want to peel these guys (which defeats the purple color) but I’ve included a recipe for a kholrabi puree which you can add the kholrabi greens in too. Otherwise, some folks like to eat it raw with dip.

Filet Green Beans are also newcomers. These guys are delish in some garlic and butter. For this week, the garlic scapes could be used int the beans. But starting next week, there will be fresh garlic bulbs!

Scapes can also be used to replace the garlic in the pesto recipe. The basil is overflowing right now and so we pass it on to you. You can make pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays to keep on hand in small doses. If you’re not into pesto (and I’m so sorry for that as it’s WONDERFUL), you could either dry the basil to use later on or put in a vase as a little fresh bouquet. Remember, basil does not like temperatures under 40 degrees and will blacken in the fridge. Keep on the counter in a jar to prevent chill damage.
