The hum of the well running has been filling the silence of the house the last week. Without adding some water to the gardens, things would be in serious trouble. I can only hope that this chance of showers this evening gives the farmers’ fields a drink.

We will continue to have lots of broccoli for the short while. I’m a bit concerned about the long term though as it has pushed most of the brassicas ahead of schedule. We’re working on restarting some plants to help fill in the fall gap.

New faces this week: fresh bulb garlic, golden beets, cauliflower, and a few tomatoes.

The garlic is not yet cured all the way so store this in the fridge for best keeping. The golden beets are a very pretty orange color. Here’s a very pretty blog and a fun golden beet with goat cheese recipe.

There’s a tasting of cherry and little heirloom tomatoes in the box this week. A lot of different colors and shapes with slight differences in flavor between them. If you are uncertain if they are ripe, just give them a little squeeze and they should dent a little when ripe. There certainly will be more to come!
